Galaxy Note 2 Launch Countdown Roundup

Samsung Singapore's Exclusive Fans Preview for Galaxy Note 2 will be here in less than 48 hours. Following that, all the 3 telcos will begin their own launches of the device. Out of the three, SingTel appears to be the most 'Kancheong' of the three. SingTel will roll out sales of this phablet on Friday October 19, just one day after the preview event. For M1 and Starhub, it appears that they will only begin selling the Galaxy Note II on Saturday October 20. It depends on how desperate (kancheong) you are in getting your hands on this new galaxy addition. It depends on how much you savour the feeling of being among the first Note fans in Singapore to own the Note 2. To most people, one day would not make a difference. Nonetheless, be prepared to free up your schedule this weekend if you are planning to get one this weekend. I am expecting queues in most of the shops, but whether the queues will be as long as the iPhone launches, I doubt it will be so.

Galaxy Note II Release News: SingTel FAQs: Galaxy Note II will be on Sale on Friday, October 19

If you have decided to get the Note II, then you can skip the rest of this article. But if you are one of those who want it badly but still procrastinating, go on to see some of the latest reviews about the Note 2.

Galaxy Note II Review Round-Up

If you have only 5 minutes to spare, take a look at this video demonstrating Galaxy Note 2 User Interface (courtesy of guys at GSMArena).

After watching the video demonstration, you could now be convinced that you are definitely going for an upgrade and you will be on your way to Singtel, M1 or Starhub shops (depending on your telco contract) this weekend. On the other hand, after watching the video may leave you with more questions than answers. If so and you have plenty of time to spread, read on this 10-page review on Samsung Galaxy Note II LTE N7100 (again courtesy of guys at GSMArena). If you have only 30 seconds, here is the summary from the lengthy review.

  • Battery Test: 890-hours of Standby on 3G (compared to 820-hours on original Note)
  • Bigger but lighter: 178g (compared to 180g on original Note)
  • Sharper with less pixel
  • 16:9 Screen Ratio (compared to 16:10 on original Note)
  • Better S-Pen with AirView

Color Options

From my last check on Samsung's official website, two color options are now confirmed. The first option is 'Marble White' and the second is 'Titanium Gray'. According to my check with SingTel and M1's sites, they are going to offer these two colors. For Starhub, no clue is mentioned, but you can expect them to offer the two color options too. I know many girl fans must be quite disappointed that they did not include pink as an option. I try to keep my fingers crossed and if you insist on getting a pink version of the Galaxy Note II, you need to wait a little longer. I am quite certain that the pink option will be made available. It is only a matter of when and not if.

Galaxy Note 2 Pricing

Like many of you, I am eager to find out how much a price tag Samsung is going to attach to this Galaxy Note II. There is no doubt that fans' enthusiasm is probably at an all-time high in anticipation of Samsung's phone launch in Singapore. But my recent polling found that nearly 9 out of 10 of fans in Singapore think that the price of the Note 2 should be lower than that of iPhone 5. Though the polling is not meant to be scientific and may not accurately gauge the overall fans' sentiments here in Singapore, but you get idea :).

Launch Venue

Unless you are the lucky few who gets the preview invitation, no one seems to have any clue where they are going to hold the event. For SingTel, Marina Bay Sands was the venue pick for their iPhone 5 launch. Whether they are going to pick the same venue, we get to find out once they have sent out the emails for those who have registered their interest. Stay tuned, I'll update once there is more information surfacing.

For now, let the countdown begin as the new Galaxy is making its descend in Singapore.
